An Operating System is the low-level software which manages a computer system. It takes care of how the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between apps, plus the prioritization of applications when several run at the same time. Any program that is installed on a computer system operates by sending requests to the OS for different services by using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be performed through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the OS is what commands a web hosting server and any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide as many as three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs available and we supply all three rather than only one as we realize that you may want to set up some software with specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there are various software applications you may install on the web hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you would like to use one and that is why we offer multiple Control Panels too. Should you decide that you want some other OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you'd like. We also offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

The dedicated server plans that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license taxes, but they’re also considered to be among the most stable and risk-free OSs. We supply three different ones since each of them is supported by a different community. The packages which you can add on your hosting server are different and this may matter in case you want to install some piece of software with particular requirements for the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the Operating System that you'll pick. You can select any of the three Operating Systems during the order procedure, however if necessary, we can always set up the server anew with an alternative one upon your request. As an additional service that you can add to the package any time, we can update your OS regularly to keep it as secure as possible.
