An access log is a text file which contains an extensive list of all of the files accessed by your website visitors. All the files that were requested in one way or another shall be included, so when you have a PHP script app and a site visitor opens only the home page, for instance, you might find numerous files in the log. The reason is that there are components on the home page that are embedded - parts of other web pages, images, etcetera. All of these files will be listed inside the access log, allowing you to get a full picture of the way your site performs. The data is in plain text format, so the logs are frequently referred to as "raw data" too. An access log contains the name of every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, in addition to the user’s IP address, Internet browser and OS. More info, including the referrer website, is typically included too. A log file can be processed by various desktop apps for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats generated by your hosting server.

Access Log Manager in Hosting

If you acquire a hosting from us, you will be able to decide if access logs should be generated and for which domains or subdomains in your account this should be done. You can enable this feature from the Access/Error Logs section of the Hepsia Control Panel, integrated with all shared accounts. Any domain you host or subdomain you set up shall be listed there and you'll see an On/Off option next to every one of them, so you can quickly enable or deactivate the generation of access logs independently for every single website that you have. You could save a log to your laptop or computer by clicking on the Download link that you shall see within the exact same section of the CP. The link will be available even if you deactivate the log generation, so you shall still have access to the data compiled by our system.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it won't take more than several clicks to activate the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature can be enabled from the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and this can be done separately for every single domain or subdomain that you have inside your account. Whenever you log in and go to the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will see a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each of them. A single click shall trigger the log generation and a second one will disable it, so you can control this feature with great efficiency. A Download link within the same section will permit you to save the gathered content as a text file, which you may then use on your computer system. Even when the logs are deactivated, you'll still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
